Password Protected Directories
Understand more about password-protected directories as well as what they bring to your website.
If you wish to keep some content concealed from the public eye, you are able to enable password protection for a particular folder - either the main website folder or another one below it. Whenever this function is active, a pop-up will appear each and every time somebody attempts to open the folder in question or clicks on a direct link that goes a few levels deeper, so login details shall be needed for www.domain.com/folder/image.jpg when you have protected only the domain.com folder. If the details are not valid, a “403 Forbidden” message shall appear and there isn't any way of getting around this restriction, so you can be sure that nobody will be able to access the shielded content. The option may be useful in numerous situations - if only certain individuals need to be able to see certain files, if you are developing a site and you don't want people to see it prior to it being completed, and so on.

Password Protected Directories in Shared Web Hosting
Creating a password-protected area shall take no more than a few mouse clicks and a few seconds when you host your websites in a
shared web hosting account with us. You will not need to do anything complex - you will need to pick a domain/subdomain, to choose which folder under it must be secured, and then to enter the login name and password that will be used to access that folder. In case a number of individuals require their own login details, there shall not be a problem to make numerous different usernames with access to the exact same folder. All secured folders shall appear with a padlock icon inside the File Manager section, so you will always know where this function is enabled. If you'd like to deactivate the protection feature for any folder, you can disable it from the same section of the Control Panel where you have enabled it.
